DOMAINS & LAW 03 - God glorified in the Domains

God is God of all domains of human life, revealed in all domains of human life and glorified in all domains of human life. Because we are not so used to seeing the God of the Bible like this, here are some thoughts of how God is revealed in each domain, and how it looks for each domain, when God’s will is done:

He is the King of kings
He is the Lord of Lords
He is the Giver of Law
He is the Just Judge

God is glorified …

in just judgment
in efficient administration
in secure borders
in lawfulness
in free movement
in safe streets
in good relations with neighboring countries
in protection of the weak

He is the Provider
He is Jehovah Jireh
He is generous
He is goodness

God is glorified …

in well-worked fields
in quality goods
in abundance of food
in availability of useful things
in just prices
in salaries paid on time
in safety at work
in hard work
in enjoyment of good things

He is the Creator
He is Lord of reality
He is powerful
He is law-abiding

God is glorified …

in clean water
in functioning things
in electricity being available
in increased crops
in good sanitation
in well-built houses
in prevented disease
in inventions for higher populations

He is the God of relationship
He is ‘Our Father in Heaven’
Jesus is the obedient Son
The Trinity lives in community

God is glorified …

in peace and respect in marriages
in a breast-fed baby
in a couple’s intimacy
in thriving children
in a developing next generation
in joy of co-living
in respect for a wise grand-mother

He is the Great Teacher
He is the Giver of Knowledge
He is the Lord of Meaning
He is the Lord of Understanding
He is Wisdom

God is glorified …

in growing knowledge
in passed-on skill
in a literate society
in human inventions and research
in empowered poor
in growing ability
in wise elders
in curious children

He is the living word
He is the life-giving Word
He is the Truth
He is real
He reveals himself

God is glorified…

in truth spoken
in a contract kept
in a promise fulfilled
in true witness in court
in accurate reporting
in reliable newspapers
in interest in each other
in encouraging words
in speaking up against evil

He is the Great High priest
He is the only Sacrifice
He is holy and merciful
He desires relationship with us

God is glorified …

in people getting revelation
in people receiving mercy
in the prayer of friends
in mental and spiritual health
in people growing in service
In people knowing what is good & choosing it
in wise counsel
in getting one more chance

He is creative
He loves diversity
He is Beauty
He restores us

God is glorified …

in rest and relaxation
in beauty and beautiful things
in an exiting cricket game
in music
in celebration and dance
in a peaceful park and natural scenery
in skillful handicraft
in joyful painting

Summary

God is glorified …

in all types of work and all professions
in all work done by his principles

We need to think like God. We need to expand our view. We need to study the Bible anew with the domains and human professions in mind. The modern church has become ‘overly spiritual’ … compare our modern thinking with somebody like William Carey. William Carey worked for the domains of society:

He taught and translated the Bible (CHU)
He started school, also schools for girls, wrote grammars and translated literature (EDU)
He printed the first newspaper on Indian ground (COM)
He did research in botany, studied insects, brought the steam engine to India (SCI)
He made sure farmers could get fixed interest loans (ECO)
He trained people who later transformed the British Raj and the East India Company. He worked to have widow burning and child marriage abolished (GOV) … and so much more!

We need to find back to this deeper understanding of what God wants for our societies. And we need to study our Bibles again looking for God’s thinking and his principles for all the domains.
